Araliya Restaurant was registered and started operation in September 1985 by Sriyan and Dee Wedande. The restaurant was situated at 611 Glenferrie Road. It soon started getting recognition from the locals as a favourite of Hawthorn for that touch of spice. It has a reputation for quality and consistency and is presently going through a second generation of customers.

After winning many accolades and awards, Araliya has moved to a more spacious location at 629 Glenferrie Road, just three doors up from the old place and now operates as a Wine Bar and Restaurant.

Often, people ask us to describe the dishes served at Araliya. To put it in the words of a customer, it is simply a “culinary delight”; with a blend of traditional Sri Lankan spices fused with taste sensations from around the world our food is coeliac friendly and can be shared by all. With us, no one is left out, as everything is cooked to order. Throw in some of Sam’s secret recipes that has lasted for over 23 years and you walk out with an unforgettable experience that always makes you flood back for more.
